What does biblical law have to do with justice? Everything! Moses said to his people: “”Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue, that you may live…”(Deu. 16:20) Thus says the LORD: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed.(Isa.56:1) No-one has said it better! Right?
The chase of justice is the foundation of urbane humanity. Yet we know many people working abroad; in particular FILIPINOS, now have been oppressed, maltreated, and experienced amiss judicial system in other country, yet why they still opt in hiding themselves in stillness? All of us want justice, and searching justice insinuates silence!
“We tell people to come out of silence,” “Do not be afraid to say that you have been victimized.”But lack of support from our countrymen brings nostalgia to the victim. This is not easy, but CHOOSING the right response, is the key.-EXPOSING THE PAIN OF INEQUALITY and the emerging CALLOUSNESS of some abusive authorities. Fair dealing with this kind of situation doesn’t happen unless we are focused and determined. Yet everything – ‘including our lives’ – depends on it.
In the midst of incisive way to help out the victims, It reminded me to overview the case of my brethren RONALD ULEP AND RAFAEL ALAMARES who were been arrested two years ago by the QATARI authorities. The two were involved in the case of Abdullah Youseff Chua; A former Muslim turned Jesus Christ believer. ULEP and ALAMARES were arrested without warrant of arrests. According to the families, and other brethren in Qatar; the Qatar authorities, would not like to release them as long as they could not participating in the case and give all the information needed to evince that CHUA is blameworthy on his case. The two were still detained in Qatar, without any formal charges against them. The families were much concerned on the condition of ULEP and ALAMARES inside the detention centre. Yes it’s been two years, and even now, it’s still not yet over. The two years of aggravation, mental and physical torture by the Qatari authorities should bring to a halt NOW! They need to be freed from injustice, indeed!
The Lord’s Hand Ministry, wherein ULEP and ALAMARES second home, is constantly processing all the means to help the brethren to acquire their freedom. Rev. Joseph Apilado, the Congregation Head, who was also arrested together with them and the other 5 pastors in Qatar two years ago, (http://www.pinoy-ofw.com/news/1526-nine-filipinos-detained-in-qatar.html ) recalled how painful it was to be detained and being demoralized. As he testified, 85days of solitary confinement is in itself a manifestation of psychological and mental torture “The most noteworthy abuse I suffered in prison was my psychological and mental torture. I was physically tortured, which included beatings during interrogations, sleep deprivation, hell cuffs, hog tie, it was a very terrible experience! And common to us was requiring us to assume an uncomfortable position and remain in that position for prolonged periods. When the situation permitted and when no longer under observation, we would secretly assume a more comfortable position, if they caught us, it led to beatings and resumption of the position. Some of the mental and psychological torture included giving me false news and information, threatening me with flogging, forcing me to accept debauched charges, threatening us with a long prison sentence, and banning my visitations, forced participation in espionage involvement, and some of my brethren suffered from indoctrination, giving the illusion to convince us that Islam is the true religion/ Jesus is not God, me and my brethren has his own story to tell, it was really traumatic, but in every pain, I always let God to be my strength.” he continued.
Apostle Joseph interrogation with the abusive Qatari authorities was not easy, but he did not compromise his stand on his faith. After a long period of time, Apilado was acquitted in terrorism case. Like the family of ULEP and ALAMARES, Apostle Joseph Apilado, is truly aiming for the justice they deserve.
The challenge to this desolate situation is to see how we analyze how pathetic we are if we continue to choose silence, how painful it is if we ignore the greater possibility to wreck large-scale problems of crime, how traumatic it could be if these kind of stories untold and how biblical law advances being about something more than just an interpersonal scheme, important though that is.
There was leaked information that the Qatar authorities usually practices hypothetical stories to deprived human rights. In a Muslim country like Qatar, the abusive authorities can easily arraign other believers (such as Christians) involving them in ESPIONAGE indictment in order to arrest them. Unfair isn’t it? But it actually happens.
The case of ULEP and ALAMARES, must to be recognized now! This is to inform the whole of politics and public administration that law goes far beyond.
What if we apply the biblical law, as Its goal is to develop a worldview that is shaped at every point by an understanding of what it means to live a life of love as persons made in the image of God and which, in turn, feeds into our understanding and aspirations regarding the sort of world we want to live in.
If we treat this injustice system paralyzed, and justice never prevails. “The wicked edge in the righteous, so that justice is perverted”- (Hab.1:4)
The victims like CHUA, ULEP and ALAMARES are roaring for help. They are reaching out all of us, not just the Filipinos but to every nation to explode! To let one’s hope become the resistance for the innocent prisoners fighting to survive!
My shout, your screams, can break the silence of INJUSTICE! Share hopes and encouragement to the innocent Filipino prisoners in Qatar!
Yes, It is not yet over…We are just starting to FIGHT! Let’s wage war against abusive authorities, against all kinds of injustice, because the battle is in the Lord’s hand now!
